Governor DeSantis shows up late for tree lighting in Ybor

DeSantis in Ybor

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis showed up very early this morning in Ybor City to participate in the 10th annual holiday tree lightning ceremony, which took place over two weeks ago.

“I kind of wanted to avoid the crowd”, he said. “Plus, showing up fashionably late is something that’s cool to do.”

The event was presented by the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce, and featured music from a DJ, an appearance by Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and took place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 18.

“I love Ybor City”, said the governor, standing in line to get into the Honey Pot nightclub at 1am. “People here aren’t bothered by silly things like social distancing and face masks. They just want to have a good time because they’re all about freedom. Me too!” He was denied entry for not wearing a mask.

“Yeah sure, that’s why we didn’t let him in”, said the person working the door.

Visibly disappointed, DeSantis went across the street to Centro Ybor, crawled under the tree, unplugged the lights, waited about 45 seconds and plugged them back in again while loudly humming ‘Jingle Bells’. “Now it’s lit”, he said, emerging from beneath the tree before getting back into his limousine and returning to Tallahassee.
