DeSantis ready to move on, if Disney is into it
As Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ wannabe Republican Presidential campaign and his artificially manufactured culture war with the Walt Disney Corporation are locked in a simultaneous death spiral, plummeting back to Earth at high speed, DeSantis says he now wants to “move on”.
“We’ve basically moved on. They’re suing the state of Florida. They’re going to lose that lawsuit. So what I would say is, drop the lawsuit. Let’s move forward. I’m totally fine with that, but I’m not fine with giving extraordinary privileges to one special company at the exclusion of everybody else.”
– DeSantis in an interview with CNBC’s “Last Call”, Monday, August 14
There are 1,844 special tax districts in Florida. If DeSantis actually believes what he says in this quote, he would order another special session of the Florida Congress and eliminate all 1,844 special districts. Unfortunately, the Villages is a special tax district that is also a major right-wing base so that’s never going to happen.
But Tampa News Force has obtained (and by “obtained”, we mean “made up”) an email composed by DeSantis intended to be sent to Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
Dear Mr. Disney,
First of all, I love you. Know that up front. None of this was ever personal. Just business, as in ‘I think my best bet to run for President is to pander to the kind of idiots who get mad at what color a mermaid is’ business.
Anywho, now that it’s pretty apparent that I’m not going to be President and will have to live in this Godforsaken hellhole state for another couple of years as Governor, what do you say we just forget everything and move on? I appreciate that you employ thousands of the rabble that live here and that I’m supposed to serve. I also really appreciate the revenue that your little carnival brings into the state. You wanna acknowledge that gay people are human beings that exist? Well, okay. I don’t have to like it but I guess I can look the other way. In exchange, if you could quit kicking my ass, that would be great and I’d consider it a very generous favor.
What do you say, buddies?
Yours,
Ron DeSantis
PS: I love you.
Just because we made it up doesn’t mean it isn’t real
So far, Disney has yet to respond. DeSantis said he’s not above making a more visceral and emotional plea if necessary.
