Man can feel death creeping in
Lutz resident, Michael Billingsley, is claiming that he has become aware of death slowly inching it’s way into his life one day at a time.
“It’s like a black shadow I can see coming towards me a little bit closer every day, and I just know that it’s death coming to take my life away.” Said Billingsley.
“Things look and feel darker, I feel slower and weaker, my vision is blurry and my extremities feel painful sensations which are increasing in intensity.” He shared.
“Yikes, what a bummer.” I blurted out mid interview.
Billingsley looked slightly shocked and annoyed that I would say something so callous.
“I feel like I’m transitioning to another state of being and existence away from the physical reality we know.” Billingsley continued, with wonder.
“I’m feeling a strong sense of galactic awareness and grandiose mantras channeling me from light-years away.” Billingsley coughed, eyes glistening with an inter dimensional gaze.
“Boresville!” I shouted in jest.
“You’re boring me man, everybody is going to die eventually, why do you think this is news worthy that you can feel yourself dying and transitioning to another realm? I could be at a hog race or something eating a free corn dog and covering that, why am I here with you?”
Suddenly the man turned into a mirror.
And the indie theater full of creatives watching the show review understand the daft metaphor and they began clapping with purpose.
I faced the crowd and took a bow, to the falling of roses at my feet.
Someone jumped on to stage with me and said, “Wow, such good art! You really helped shape my perception of the world in a positive manner, and in turn, that will create real life, tangible, results, because you made something good, so you’re kind of like, saving humanity.” Then he left the stage and registered to run for president, and ultimately won the presidency, but it turned out he had lied to all of us, and he was just pretending to be a good person so we would all vote for him, and he funded multiple foreign wars for no purpose other than to destabilize poor countries and pillage them of their natural resources.
It was upsetting to say the least.
The art, which I had loved so much, and hoped would inspire love and positive change was instead a catalyst of destruction and evil.
It broke my heart, but that’s art. You don’t get to decide what effect it has on people. You might think, “Oh, that comedy movie was so light and fun!” But someone else might see it and then decide to detonate a bomb at a charity event. The world doesn’t make sense. It’s just a series of actions and reactions, like chemical experiments, with results you can never 100% accurately predict. We think the sun is going to come out tomorrow just because it has every day before it, but that is still not a guarantee it will happen again.
So enjoy yourself while you can, because you don’t know when that dark cloud will engulf you. Go to that all-you-can-eat shrimp fest, and buy that bucket of sautéed clams that you’ve had your eye on. Ask the pretty girl if she wants to roller-skate down blood gulch mountain, and aim your sights as high as they can go. Because this might very well be the last sentence you ever read.
But hopefully it is not.
That would be poetically grim.
Which is also the name of the stage show I was previewing earlier.
“Poetically Grim.”
Which also happens to be the words I have tattooed on my lower back which bleed into my gooch tattoo of a silver sling blade. But the story behind that one will be saved for another day. See you in the future!
