University of Tampa to Rebrand
The University of Tampa, known widely by its shorthand nickname of UT, is dropping that nickname and choosing to identify as UTampa instead, in order to stand apart from other similarly named institutions.
“For example, you have the University of Texas, the University of Tulsa and urinary tract infections,” cited Robert Erstwhile, University of Tampa Vice President of Logos and Nicknames. “All fine, well-respected, established institutions but we need to stand apart from them.”
“There are many others. Such as the University of Tennessee, the burning, the spasms, the frequent urination, the cramping,” he added. “We’re honored to be associated with them but by the same token, we want an identity of our own not necessarily associated with inflammation and foul-smelling urine.”
He then ended the press conference abruptly and left to use the restroom while screaming.
