Bucs fan may like Mayfield even more than Brady
Following a 26-9 victory by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Saints in New Orleans, Sean Paffle of Tampa is experiencing conflicting, and confusing emotions.
“I think I might like Baker more than Brady,” he said. “God have mercy on my soul.”
Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, replacing Tom Brady this year after the past three seasons, completed 25 of 32 pass attempts for 246 yards and three touchdowns, as the Bucs improved to 3-1.
“Baker is obviously not nearly as good as Brady, who’s the greatest of all time, and Baker hasn’t won anything significant here yet. But I don’t know; there’s something about him that seems more relatable or something somehow. Baker seems tougher and less spoiled and whiney,” said Paffle, trying to work the situation out for himself by talking about it aloud. “Jesus, I’m already calling him by his first name. I never once referred to Brady as ‘Tom’!”
“Plus, Brady never really seemed like he actually lived among us here in Tampa Bay, limiting his appearances to a handful of fancy places in downtown and South Tampa”, he continued. “But I can easily picture Baker eating chili at Three Coins after a night out in Ybor.”
“It doesn’t make sense, but when does love ever make sense? Yeah, I said it; I love Baker Mayfield!”, he added joyfully.
“I have to admit that I’m a little ashamed of myself for not showing more loyalty, devotion and gratitude to a guy who brought us a Super Bowl championship. But hey, he’s gone and we’re 3-1!”
