Committee Seeks Input on What to Do with Robles Park Village Mural

As plans move forward to redevelop the Robles Park Village properties, with the Tampa Housing Authority hoping to offer approximately 1900 new units (with nearly 80% of those actually being affordable!), discussion is taking place on what to with a mural of late stand-up comedian and actor Robin Harris painted on one of the buildings.

“Um, that isn’t Robin Harris. It’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights icon and the author of the famous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech,” said Lily Blanc, spokesperson for the Tampa Guild of Public Artworks.

No it’s not. It doesn’t look like Dr. King at all. It’s obviously Robin Harris, who was in ‘Do The Right Thing’ and ‘House Party’ and the creator of Bé-bé’s Kids.

“Regardless of an individual’s artistic interpretation, I assure you the intended subject of the mural is Dr. King,” said Blanc. “The discussion now is what to do with it. Try to keep intact and move it? Leave it where it is and build around it? Tear it down and re-do it? It would be a shame to just lose it.”

Blanc is worrying needlessly because we don’t die… we multiply.
