DeSantis on Florida Great Outdoors Initiative: “Just Kidding”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ office has commented on the controversial Florida Great Outdoors Initiative.

“It was a joke, okay? Geez, folks. Lighten up,” said spokesperson Linda Malarkey. “Do you really believe Ron DeSantis would ever seriously back a half-baked idea like building hotels, golf courses and pickleball courts in our state parks? It’s not like confusing some performing arts festival somehow with a sex fest because he doesn’t understand art or sex. Come on.”

She went on to say the proposal, which was greeted with considerable resistance by both liberal and conservative politicians as well as the general public, was never meant to be implemented as-is and that the information was leaked out to a left-wing group to create a narrative.

“This was something that was leaked. It was not approved by Governor DeSantis,” she said. “Just because the info was posted to the state’s official web site and public meetings were scheduled throughout the state doesn’t mean it wasn’t also leaked. If there’s one thing we know about Governor DeSantis, it’s that more than one thing can be true, depending on potential political ramifications.”
