FUNraiser Succeeds in Raising Zero Dollars

Rich and Sandy Mooson, volunteers for a charitable foundation established to provide financial assistance to victims of the recent hurricanes that impacted the Tampa Bay Area, hosted a fundraising event this past weekend at their Davis Islands home that didn’t generate any revenue.

“Correction, my friend. It wasn’t a ‘fundraiser’ it was a FUN raiser,” said Rich.

“And on that front, it was an unqualified success,” agreed Sandy, as she kissed Rich on the cheek.

The lavish party featured a fully catered meal, an open bar, a live DJ, cornhole, ax throwing, a 360-degree spinning photo booth, a caricature artist and a s’mores bar, all paid for by the foundation. As a result, the disadvantaged people it’s designed to assist will be going without some frills like food, shelter and clothing for a while.

“I’d have to say it was a refreshing change,” said local wealthy socialite Amber Van Dush. “Usually, these things are all ‘give give give’ and this one was ‘take take take’. I had a great time and it didn’t cost me anything. What a fantastic party!”

Friedrich Gleegerhoffen, one of the foundation’s board members was surprised to learn of the nature of the party.

“You couldn’t do a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle or even a tip jar? Something that would have generated at least a couple of bucks?,” he asked incredulously. “What purpose did this whole thing even serve??”

”Exposure?,” suggested Sandy sheepishly.

“You know, I guess we were just fixated on the ‘fun’ part,” said Rich. “But we did have fun, so…”
