Local Comedian Sells Merchandise During Cancer Fundraiser
Gary Kiner, a stand-up comedian from Tampa, was among other local comics who performed recently at a cancer fundraiser, at which he set up a table and sold promotional merchandise for himself.
”I slayed the merch game tonight,” he said. “Not like cancer slays people but still pretty great.”
Kiner bills himself as a “BILFF”, which he says is an acronym that stands for “Boy, I Love Fast Food”.
“See, the joke is that sounds like a different acronym that everyone has heard before but this is something different because I’m fat and not really very sexy,” he explained. “It’s a hilarious joke! Easily the best thing I’ve ever written.”
The merchandise he sold at the event included t-shirts, drinkwear, stickers and keychains, all emblazoned with a photo of his face, the BILFF acronym and his web site address.
”I had a great spot in the back of the room, so I could sell while the other comics were doing their sets. They didn’t even bother me,” he said. “Which is kind of like a metaphor for how you can still live a little productive life while having cancer, or something.”
“If you are suffering from cancer or know someone who is, there’s nothing better than a shot glass with my website on it so people can drink and get more of my hilarious comedy,” he said, when asked if he believed that what he did was appropriate. “Well, that or recovery from cancer, I guess.”
“But one of those is not going to get me clicks,” he added, winking and doing finger guns.
