Tampa man 1 billionth person to question purpose of Threads

Threads

Eric Slinkley of Tampa has officially been recognized as the one billionth Threads user to question the purpose of the social media platform.

“What even is this?”

Created by Meta, parent company of Facebook and Instagram, with the intention of competing with Twitter, the platform announced over 100 million sign-ups within the first seven days of being launched in July.

Slinkley finds himself confused. ”Is this something I downloaded or is it like that U2 album?”

While the platform continues to draw users, many of whom are automatically linked via their Instagram accounts, people like Slinkley are questioning the necessity and purpose of the service.

“I guess it’s like Twitter? Or X now? Cool, I guess,” he said. “But I don’t use that. Or those. Or whatever.”
