Tampa Man Can’t Believe He’s Not First to Comment on Instagram Post

Eric Bagelbytes of Tampa absolutely refuses to accept that someone else posted the exact same comment he came up with in response to a celebrity news story on Instagram.

“No way. There’s just no way,” he said incredulously. “The algorithm is broken or something.”

He’s reacting to a story that came up on his feed, stating that American actor, singer, songwriter, record producer, podcaster, and game show host Joey Lawrence, best known for playing Joey Russo on the 1990s NBC sitcom “Blossom” had been accused of committing adultery in divorce documents filed by his estranged spouse Samantha Cope.

“I was scrolling the second that came across and I immediately knew that the perfect comment was simply the word ‘WHOA!’,” he said, sadly shaking his head. “I knew because I’m familiar not only with the actor’s career and the one-word catchphrase he so deftly used to express disbelief or surprise but I’m also familiar with Mike Myers’ satirical portrayal of him in sketches on Saturday Night Live in which he would say nothing but that word.”

Bagelbytes immediately started typing, pausing only long enough to make sure he had spelled it correctly and hit send, only to see that someone else had posted the exact same thing before he did.

“Not just one someone; 21 people, according to Instagram,” he said. “They had me in 22nd place, posting the perfect, clever, brief reaction to a breaking news story. I just don’t see how it’s possible that 21 people somewhere out there are more quick-witted and 90s pop culture-literate than me.”

Asked why it was so important to him to be first, he said, “Ever since the first comments-enabled thing ever posted to the internet, it’s accepted that being first to comment establishes your credibility as an innovator with a fresh perspective. It means anybody who says what you said after you said it is unoriginal and lame. This makes me look unoriginal and lame!”

“The whole thing has me saying ‘WHOA’ unironically,” he added.
