Heroic Effort Leads to Early Toilet Flushing
Thanks to employees at the Northeast Water Reclamation Facility in St. Petersburg, people in that area are able to flush their toilets a full day ahead of schedule, after the sewage plant was taken offline Thursday to avoid damage due to peak storm surge from Hurricane Helene. The original plan was to bring the facility back online later tonight.
Ed, a supervisor and one of the workers responsible for the rapid response said, “People have got to be able to flush their toilets. Otherwise what’s the point of our society?”
His co-worker Steve added, “Personally, I usually need to flush twice because of my diet so this has been doubly hard on people like me.”
Getting the plant back online required hard work over long hours from these dedicated public servants and there was some drama in the last few seconds before resuming service this morning at midnight, as illustrated in this transcript…
ED: Okay, I’m going to count it down to zero and then you’re going to hit the switch. Got it?
STEVE: Got it.
ED: Three… Two… One…
STEVE: (hits switch)
ED: No! Too soon! Too soon!! Nooooooo!!!
STEVE: What?!? I didn’t know you were going to say the word ‘zero’! I thought it was implied and I was just supposed to…
ED: Dear God, that is such a contrived and corny plot device!!
STEVE: What are we gonna do now?!?
ED: (listens carefully and looks at gauges) Huh. I guess it’s fine.
STEVE: Oh, cool.
Tampa News Force wants to sincerely thank the entire staff at the Northeast Water Reclamation Facility as well as everyone pressed into action within all the different public services for their continuous work in helping Bay Area residents recover from this devastating storm.
