Bucs Ban Singing Along at Home Games
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have politely requested that fans not sing along to games played at Raymond James Stadium, starting with the game this weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
“At Tampa Bay Buccaneers games, silence is golden. No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of football.” – New stadium code of fan conduct policy
Reaction from fans so far is mixed.
“This sucks. I love the Buccaneers and I love making up and singing songs to celebrate them and their success on the field,” said Steven Zchwertz of St. Petersburg. “It made me feel like I was part of the team.”
Winnie Zolzman of Tampa, who sits in the same section as Zchwertz, disagreed. “Why are you singing along to a football game? Shut the hell up. Most of the song lyrics you’re coming up with don’t even make sense. Sure, you can rhyme ‘Evans’ with ‘heavens’, ‘Vea’ with ‘playa’ and I guess ‘Mayfield’ with ‘hayfield’ but there’s nothing that rhymes with ‘Lavonte’ or ‘David’ so quit trying to force it!’
A team spokesman speaking anonymously said, “We don’t plan on being too strict about enforcing it, except for this week. That’s because we’re playing the Raiders. Their fans hate music, along with puppies, kitties and most other things that bring people joy and we don’t want to get them stirred up.”
