There was a time when shopping malls were intended to replace the gathering places provided by communal town squares abandoned by people as they fled urban downtowns for life in the suburbs. However, tastes and preferences have shifted once again and people who eschew online shopping for a more personal experience are seeking out boutique shops in cute, revitalized downtowns.
